NR teens compete in Triathlon
Morgan Olenick and Alex White, who will be freshmen at New Richmond High School, this fall, competed in the Morgan’s Canoe 30th annual Little Miami Triathlon. The triathlon is the oldest in the United States and is composed of a 6 mile canoe, 5.5 mile run and 18 mile bike race in that order and benefits the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and the Boy Scouts of America.
The girls set off in their canoe by 08:40 AM and had completed the race as a team in an impressive display of athleticism in just over 3 hours and 56 minutes. The desire to compete had been fueled by a challenge posed last September by Morgan’s father Chris Olenick and the girls Physical Education Instructor, Phil Heflin (NRMS) whom also competed in the event as a team.
The girls trained aggressively running cross country in the fall and track in the spring for NRMS, and also competing recently in the Cincinnati Reds - Run for Home - Red Legs 5K race which benefits the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund. The two teams continue to train and plan to face-off again in the event next year.
