2nd H1N1 clinic Dec. 17 at NRE

The Clermont County General Health District has scheduled a vaccination clinic for Thursday, Dec. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Richmond Elementary for New Richmond Exempted Village School District students (and their younger siblings) age 10 and under who need the second H1N1 vaccination as recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC recommends children through 9 years of age should get two doses of vaccine, about a month apart. The Dec. 17 clinic is for children who received their first dose at the Nov. 12 clinic.

Parents or guardians must fill out a second consent form for their children to receive the second H1N1 vaccination. The form is attached to this email and also is available online from the General Health District and will be available at the clinic.

Middle School Veterans Day program

New Richmond Middle School held its program honoring Veterans Day Nov. 12 and featured a skit showing how purchase of drugs benefit the enemy our soldiers are facing in Afghanistan.



The Middle School program was followed by a presentation by State Representative and U.S. Marine Col. Danny R. Bubp, whose 88th District includes New Richmond. Bubp called the Middle School presentation one of the best he's ever seen on why you should not use drugs.

The Middle School chorus under the direction of Mr. Gilfillin performed for the program.

New Richmond Elementary held its annual Veterans Breakfast Monday, Nov. 9 with retiring New Richmond Board of Education member Ralph Shepherd hosting New Richmond area veterans.

Mr. Joe Golfman, 90, a long-time volunteer at Monroe Elementary School, shared two stories of facing German Tiger tanks during Monroe and Locust Corner's Veterans Breakfasts. Golfman is introduced by retiring New Richmond Board of Education member Ralph Shepherd, who is a member of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.

New Richmond's Monroe Elementary held its Veterans Breakfast Friday, Nov. 6. Student council members served as greeters and waiters. Sally Lindsley, the school's vocal music teacher, and the students entertained the veterans with patriotic songs.

H1N1 consent forms sent home with students

A letter from Clermont County Health Commissioner Marty Lambert regarding the H1N1 vaccination clinics to be held Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at New Richmond Middle and High Schools for students at those schools and from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Richmond Elementary for all district elementary students is being sent home with students Thursday.

A consent form that must accompany your child (if under the age of 18) in order for them to receive the vaccine at the school clinic is attached with the letter.

In case the letter or consent form is misplaced, you may download the letter or the consent form.

Monroe Creative Family Art Night



Students and family members packed the Monroe Elementary gym Thursday, Oct. 29 for the school's Monroe's 2nd Annual Creative Family Art Night which benefited Angel's Rest Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit animal shelter in New Richmond.

"The theme of the Creative Family Art Night was Creative Creature Celebration, where each art experience/station was animal/creature oriented," explained Monroe Art teacher Adrian Hawk.

Volunteers from Angel's Rest brought several animals that had been rescued for family photos and awareness.

Monroe students in Battle of the Brains

Four Monroe Elementary sixth graders will be taking on the best and brightest of Clermont County Tuesday when they participate in the in the Clermont County Battle of the Brains Tuesday at the Miami Township Civic Center.

“Cydney Stiles, Jenna Swormstedt, Erin O'Toole and Jade Kunz will be representing Monroe and the New Richmond School Distict,” said Karen McCann, the gifted teacher for Monroe Elementary and New Richmond Elementary schools.

The competition is between teams of gifted students from Clermont County schools. The teams face off in an academic quiz bowl, with the winners returning in future weeks for more competition. The Monroe team will be competing at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday.

In the first round, New Richmond will be competing against Milford’s McCormick Elementary. The competition will be televised on the Miami Township cable channel and and will be posted online at the www.miamitwp.org.

“Cydney Stiles is the team leader and initiated the group's participation,” said McCann. “The girls have volunteered their own time to prepare for the competition and are very excited to represent New Richmond Schools.

“It's quite an honor to participate in this competition and I'm excited to see how our kids compete!”
