Rotary donates $1500 to district

Tom Fodor, chief executive officer of the Dayton chapter of the American Red Cross, presents Supt. Adam Bird with a check for $1500 from the Springboro Rotary Club for the purchase of two large outdoor multipurpose tents.
The New Richmond Exempted Village School District has received a donation of $1500 from the Springboro Rotary Club for the purchase of two multipurpose outdoor tents.

The donation was delivered by Tom Fodor, chief executive officer of the Dayton Chapter of The American Red Cross as the June 28 Board of Education meeting.
"The Springboro Rotary Club wanted to do something for Ohio communities hit by the tornado," said Fodor. "The Club took an interest in the effects on Moscow’s young people since our Club has a Rotary Interact Club at Springboro High School."

During a visit to Moscow as part of the Red Cross relief effort, Fodor learned that Moscow was part of New Richmond school district and began working with Interim Principal Jim Smith for something the school needed that may have been overlooked in light of all the tornado devastation.

Fodor, Smith and other school officials determined that multipurpose outdoor tents would be useful to the school, which is used as a Red Cross shelter when needed during disaster recovery efforts.

"Our club voted to purchase two of those tents and only asked that perhaps a small patch noting 'Donated By Springboro OH Rotary 2012' be a sewn or attached to the tents," said Fodor.

The Springboro High School Interact Club raised a part of the $1500 donation with the bulk coming from from the Springboro Rotary Club’s charitable fund.
