Teachers volunteer for iPad training

The school year started early for approximately 100 teachers and staff in the New Richmond Exempted Village School District who volunteered for technology training on the integration of iPads into the classroom.

"We averaged about 35 per day for three-day training sessions," explained Matt Prichard, NREVSD director of technology, who conducted the training sessions along with staff members Steve Wolf and Julie Edmondson.
Teachers at New Richmond Middle School and NREVSD's three elementary schools  received training on the use of iPads and educational apps during three days of technology training prior to the start of the 2012-13 school year.

Teachers at New Richmond High School began using iPads and associated educational apps as instructional tools last year. The successful integration at the high school led to Board of Education approval to extend the program to all teachers in the district.

The BOE also approved mobile iPad carts for all five district buildings where they will be used as needed by teachers in the classroom and also for future state mandated online student assessments.

"We believe that it's important to get technology in the hands of our students.," explained Supt. Adam Bird. "In order for our students to take advantage of educational apps on the iPad carts, our teachers had to have one as well and be trained on it so they could be the leader in their classroom."

In addition to all NREVSD teachers having iPads, each school will have mobile iPad  carts for  use by students as needed and also for state mandated online student assessments.

Here is a typical response Prichard received from teachers.

"I learned so many things," said New Richmond Elementary teacher Connie Hammer. "Some were small (but meant a lot to me) and others were dynamic with far reaching implications for student achievement."
