Monroe art a hit in Columbus

It isn’t an easy task for Monroe Elementary visual arts teacher Adrian Hawk to single out individuals from her talented pool of young artists who fill about every blank space on the walls of their school with their artwork.

Rosemary Wildey, grade 2, and Freyah Stacy, grade 3, made her job easy this year when she went looking for artwork to recommend for display in Columbus during the month of March.

"Rosemary and Freyah are old souls when it comes to their art making,” said Hawk. “I am always amazed at the maturity and beauty that they seem to express through their art making processes.”

Rosemary was chosen as an exhibitor for the 34th annual Young People’s Art Exhibition at the Rhodes State Office Tower. She was one of 129 artists statewide chosen for this exhibit.

Freyah was chosen as one of 124 exhibitors for the 2014 Youth Art Month Exhibition at the State Teacher’s Retirement System building in Columbus.

Both exhibits are sponsored by the Ohio Art Eduction Association which is the professional organization for art teachers in Ohio and is dedicated to promoting art education and recognition for quality student artists at both the state and regional levels.

Students with artwork on display were recognized at receptions on March 15. Rosemary was able to attend but Freyah was sick and unable to attend.

"It was pretty cool,” said Rosemary. “My cousins were there.  My whole family was there.  I liked seeing the other art in the show."

"I was sick so I didn't get to go to the show in Columbus,” said Freyah. “I wish I could have gone."

"I am so lucky to have them in my room every week,” added Hawk. “They inspire  me to be a better teacher."
